This Guide will walk you through all of the advanced features in the Deepwriter generation app.
Step 1: Start a New Project
Log in to your Deepwriter dashboard at
Click "New Project" in the top right corner
Give your project a name
This step is usually skipped. However, if you provide your own OpenRouter API key, your account will only be charged at ½ page credits. For most users, however, this can be skipped.
This is where you tell Deepwriter what to write, output or solve.
The prompts can be as simple as one or two sentences such as:
Or they can be up to 30k characters of complex instructions, or anything in between. Unlike Chatting with LLMs, agentic systems like Deepwriter fill in all that you omit but would otherwise be expected to complete the project you are prompting for. Adding more detail simply gives you more control, but it is not necessary either.
While Deepwriter will fill in whatever you omit, you can specify an absurd level of control if you desire. For example:
It is recommended to specify the number of pages or a range so that the output isn't an unexpected length and you can make the best of your page credits.
After entering your prompt, you may optionally enter up to 60k characters of outlining materials.
These outline details do not have to be in any particular format. It will use what you have.
Tip: Deepwriter outlines in a hierarchy with major sections (E.G. Main Sections, Chapters, Acts, Parts) and minor sections primarily. "Micro-Sections" are smaller than "minor sections" and are typically under 1 page in length.
Jobs may take anywhere from 15 minutes to multiple hours depending on length. Turning off Web Search will speed up jobs, but lose the "Deep Research" capabilities.
Both will end in your submitting your work for Deepwriter to complete.
Once complete, you'll receive and email with the following links. These are also available in the Job History:
A PDF version of your document
The LaTeX source files
An overview of the writing process in the Overview.pdf file
Options to share your work
Vital stats about the models used, total tokens and more.
